NRA Instructor Courses

February 1-2-3, 2008 

 

 

Basic Pistol Course- This course includes training on gun parts and operation, ammunition, safety, cleaning, storage, loading procedures, shooting fundamentals and pistol sports and activities.  Students participate in range firing exercises under the supervision of instructors.

 

Personal Protection Course- This program was developed and tested by experts in law enforcement, the legal profession, and firearms and marksmanship training.  It includes instruction on defensive handgun skills, strategies for home safety and responding to a violent confrontation, selecting a handgun & ammunition for self-defense and maintaining skills.  A local law enforcement expert provides instruction in firearms laws and ways to avoid criminal attack.  Students participate in range firing exercises under the supervision of instructors.

 

Instructor Training Courses- Designed to train experienced shooters to teach NRA Basic Firearm Training Courses as NRA Certified Instructors.  Acceptance into this program is determined by applicants’ scores on a Pre-Course Questionnaire, Assessment and Shooting Skills Evaluation.   The program involves the applicant on multiple weekends, requiring completion of a basic course followed by an additional weekend for each discipline the prospective Instructor wishes to teach.  Disciplines available include:  Rifle, Pistol, Personal Protection, Shotgun, Home Firearm Safety, Muzzleloading Pistol, Rifle & Shotgun, Reloading and Range Safety Officer.
